Reed & Stefanow was established in 1972 as a partnership between Joseph R. Reed and Peter Stefanow
as a subcontractor machining components for the aircraft industry, starting out in a 700 square foot
garage in downtown Hartford. Building a reputation as a quality machine shop led to their 1st
expansion to Bristol in 1977. In 1982, Mr. Stefanow was bought out by Joseph S. Reed and they continued
to manufacture aircraft components until 1986 when they purchased their 1st CNC milling machine. That
1st milling machine was followed by an OKUMA CNC lathe then an OKUMA CNC milling center as they continued
expanding beyond aircraft components for other industries. The company remains focused on providing the
precision and service that the founders established over 30 years ago.
